Reversbeschreibung A finely detailed depiction of a Cape mountain zebra (Equus zebra zebra) is rendered in high relief at the centre of the field, shown in full profile walking to the left across a naturalistic veld landscape with sparse grasses and acacia trees in the background. The curved legend ENDANGERED WILDLIFE arcs along the upper periphery. The denomination $10 appears to the lower left of the central motif, and the date 2007 to the lower right. The binomial scientific name EQUUS ZEBRA ZEBRA is inscribed along the lower periphery in a straight legend.

Zusätzliche Informationen

The Cape mountain zebra (Equus zebra zebra) was reduced to fewer than 30 individuals by the 1950s before South African conservation intervention pulled it back from the brink. By 2007 the population had recovered to several thousand, confined largely to Mountain Zebra National Park and a handful of private reserves — none of them in Namibia, which hosts only the Hartmann's mountain zebra, a distinct subspecies. The Bank of Namibia's choice of subject is a deliberate pan-African conservation statement rather than a reflection of local fauna.
