The composition is divided into celestial, purgatorial, and infernal registers, with robed heavenly figures seated among clouds in the upper portion, souls in transition occupying the middle register, and writhing damned souls tormented by demonic figures in the lower section. The imagery faithfully reproduces the dramatic Mannerist fresco completed by Federico Zuccari in 1579. The trapezoidal shape of the coin is designed to represent a segment of the dome's interior surface, forming part of an eight-of-nine piece series. The color printing is applied directly to the fine silver surface using a high-definition technique. |
