Issued ahead of the 2004 Athens Olympics, this is one of a sprawling series of low-gold-content commemoratives produced by Liberia throughout the early 2000s — a period when the country's mint licensing arrangements with foreign producers generated a steady stream of collector-targeted issues bearing little connection to Liberian history or economy.
