Liberia's early 2000s commemorative program was one of the most prolific — and commercially cynical — in modern numismatic history. The Central Bank licensed dozens of themed issues to overseas distributors, most bearing little connection to Liberian history or economy, produced specifically for the collector market rather than circulation. This basketball piece is a product of that program, almost certainly contracted through a private mint and marketed abroad.
