Obverse description The rhombus-shaped obverse features a central oval colored insert depicting the Holy Spirit window from St. Peter's Basilica — Gian Lorenzo Bernini's celebrated Cathedra Petri glory window — rendered in warm amber and golden hues with a dove in radiant light at center. Surrounding the insert, elaborate high-relief sculpted clouds and angelic figures populate all four quadrants of the field in a Baroque manner. The denomination '10 DOLLARS' appears in relief to the left, flanked by a winged figure, while the Coat of Arms of Palau is displayed to the right accompanied by the legend 'REPUBLIC OF PALAU' and 'RAINBOW'S END'. The date '2011' is inscribed at the lower point of the rhombus.

Additional information

Palau has issued commemorative silver under its own authority since 1994, leveraging a 1994 Coinage Act that granted the tiny island nation — population under 20,000 — full rights to produce legal tender despite having no central bank and using the U.S. dollar for everyday commerce. The St. Peter's Basilica issue belongs to a broader Vatican-adjacent series that Palau produced without any formal involvement from the Holy See.

The Fabbrica di San Pietro took 120 years to complete after Bramante laid the first stone in 1506.
