Additional information

The Marshall Islands began issuing brass $10 collector pieces in the late 1980s under a monetary agreement with the United States, which retained authority over the territory's official currency. These coins hold legal tender status but were never intended for circulation — they entered the philatelic and numismatic trade directly. The B-17 issue appeared in 1991 as part of a World War II commemorative series, a subject with particular resonance given that the Marshall Islands were the site of some of the most heavily contested Pacific campaigns, including the Battle of Kwajalein Atoll in early 1944, where B-17s flew long-range reconnaissance and bombing missions.
