Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse displays the official seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at center, depicting a frigatebird with outstretched wings above a traditional Marshallese stick chart navigation device in the lower field. Flanking the central motif are a traditional canoe sail to the right and a nukdik island scene to the left, with a radiant sun above. Two crossed traditional implements appear at the top of the seal. The circular field is bordered by a decorative chain, with the legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcing along the upper periphery, the denomination $10 to the left, the date 1997 to the right, and the Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN along the lower border, with the word SEAL on a ribbon at the base of the central device.

Aanvullende informatie

The Marshall Islands issued a prolific run of Nordic Gold commemoratives throughout the 1990s, many of which flooded the collector market and have since traded well below issue price. This piece honoring James the Greater — traditionally held to have been the first apostle martyred, executed by Herod Agrippa around 44 AD — belongs to that series. The choice of Nordic Gold, a copper-aluminum-zinc-tin alloy developed in the early 1990s, kept production costs low while mimicking gold's appearance.
