The Marshall Islands issued a prolonged series of $10 brass pieces through the 1990s targeting the collector market directly — these coins were never intended for circulation and were sold primarily through mail-order programs popular in that decade. Bartholomew is one of twelve apostle subjects in the set, each struck to the same specification.
The islands gained formal numismatic authority following the Compact of Free Association with the United States, ratified in 1986.
