Obverse description Close-up portrait of Liberty rendered as a frontal facing effigy based on the Statue of Liberty, designed by John M. Mercanti. The crowned head fills the field, with Liberty's diadem featuring a tiered crown from which radiating rays project outward toward the upper rim. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper border, while the date 2003 and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST appear in the right field. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed along the lower left rim.
