备注

Evans & Cogswell relocated their printing operation from Charleston to Columbia in 1862 under pressure from Union naval advances along the South Carolina coast — a logistical scramble that affected paper supply, ink consistency, and plate quality across multiple Confederate series. Keatinge & Ball, based in Columbia and later Richmond, supplied engraved work to several Confederate contractors simultaneously, which is why certain vignette elements appear across otherwise unrelated issues of this period.

The thin paper variant is significant. Confederate printers cycled through whatever stock was available as the blockade tightened, and paper weight fluctuated visibly across printings. Thin-paper examples are structurally more vulnerable and show wear differently than their heavier counterparts — tears tend to follow the engraving lines.
