| Obverse description | The central field bears the national coat of arms of Nauru, depicting a frigate bird above a star on a shield, encircled by a floral wreath. The legend BANK OF NAURU arcs above the arms along the upper periphery. The year of issue 2010 appears in the lower field beneath the coat of arms. The design is rendered in high relief against a polished gold field. |

| Additional information |
Nauru has issued commemorative coinage since the 1990s largely as a revenue instrument — the republic has no meaningful numismatic tradition and virtually no domestic collector base. This piece marks five years after John Paul II's death in April 2005, one of dozens of papal-themed gold minimus issues that flooded the market from small Pacific island jurisdictions in the late 2000s. The 1.24g weight places it in the "mini gold" category that became a collector nuisance as much as a commodity, struck to a price point rather than a historical occasion.
