Obverse description The complete national arms of Trinidad and Tobago occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with three sailing ships arranged in chevron, supported on the dexter by a Scarlet Ibis and on the sinister by a Cocrico, both birds standing on a rocky shore amid stylized waves. Above the shield rises an elaborate crest comprising a helmet, wreath, ship's wheel, and a palm tree. A scroll at the base bears the national motto in two parts. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO' arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto 'TOGETHER WE ASPIRE TOGETHER WE ACHIEVE' appears on the ribbon below the arms, and the date '1981' is inscribed at the bottom of the field.
