Obverse description The crowned shield of the Bahamian coat of arms occupies the central field, supported by a marlin to the left and a flamingo to the right, with a conch shell surmounted by a branch of flowers as the crest above. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto in three lines. The circular legend 'COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS' runs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, and the date '1978' appears in the lower exergue.
