A genuinely obscure military scrip issue, this note was produced for use by Republic of Korea (ROK) forces deployed in South Vietnam under the terms of the 1966 Brown Memorandum agreement with the United States. Korean troops — at peak strength numbering over 50,000 — were paid in Military Payment Certificates alongside this ROK-specific scrip, a dual-currency arrangement designed to keep hard currency out of the Vietnamese black market.
The issuing authority, Headquarters of the Republic of Korea Forces in Vietnam (주월한국군사령부), operated independently of the U.S. MPC system, though the two circulated in parallel within ROK base areas. Few examples survived repatriation — most scrip was surrendered or destroyed upon the withdrawal of Korean forces completed in 1973.
