Obverse description Printed in dominant purple and yellow on a multicolour guilloche underprint, the obverse carries an intaglio portrait of Sir John Alexander Macdonald, first Prime Minister of Canada (1867–1873; 1878–1891), at left, surmounted by the bilingual Bank of Canada title and the Coat of Arms of Canada. To the right of centre, a vignette presents a frontal view of the Library of Parliament beneath a Canadian flag, with the face value numeral '10' and bilingual legend below. Intaglio relief printing is evident throughout the primary design elements and inscriptions.
