Obverse description Black intaglio print on white paper with intricate guilloche border work running along all four margins. At centre, the denomination TEN DOLLARS is set within an ornate lathe-work oval underprint, flanked by two portrait vignettes: a facing three-quarter portrait of a gentleman at left and a right-facing portrait of another gentleman at right. The bank title THE BANK OF MONTREAL arches across the upper centre in bold serif lettering, with the date MONTREAL, 2ND JAN. 1935 and the promise clause WILL PAY TO BEARER ON DEMAND printed below. Serial numbers appear in red at upper left and right, with prefix letter A repeated at mid-field on each side.
