The Hsing Yeh Bank of Jehol was a provincial institution operating in what is now northeastern China — a region that sat uneasily between Chinese Republican authority, warlord control, and eventually Japanese imperial ambition. By 1920, Jehol province was under the effective grip of local military commanders whose backing of regional banks was as much about financing operations as facilitating commerce.

Provincial bank notes from this period were frequently refused outside their immediate issuing district, and redemption was never guaranteed. The Pick SNL designation reflects how little documentation survives for this institution — most Jehol paper currency from this era simply did not outlast the political chaos that followed.
