Obverse description Green intaglio-printed note with THE BANK OF TORONTO and DOMINION OF CANADA arched in bold lettering across the upper centre, flanking a central vignette of the Canadian coat of arms attended by two standing allegorical figures. The denomination TEN appears in large outlined letters at upper left and the numeral 10 at upper right, with subsidiary oval vignettes of a beaver at lower left and a steam locomotive at lower right; the promise text and date Toronto, 1 July 1880 are inscribed below the central vignette, and a red SPECIMEN overprint is applied across the lower centre.

SPECIMEN
Reverse description Printed entirely in blue, the reverse centres on a large circular medallion bearing an intaglio portrait of a young Queen Victoria in profile facing right, enclosed within an ornate guilloche border. The vertical legend BANK OF TORONTO runs along the left side, and two elaborate rosette medallions bearing the roman numeral X flank the central portrait on either side. The printer's imprint AMERICAN BANK NOTE CO. NEW YORK appears at the lower right margin.
