| 裏面の説明 | Entirely engraved in green ink, the reverse is dominated by an elaborate symmetrical guilloche design of interlocking rosettes, floral scrollwork, and geometric latticework radiating from a central medallion. The circular centre medallion carries the inscription 'BANK NOVA SCOTIA INC. A.D. 1832' surrounding a fine-line rosette, with the denomination numeral '10' in counters at left and right within the overall ornate surround. The American Bank Note Company imprint appears in small lettering at the lower centre. |

The Bank of Nova Scotia was unusual among Canadian chartered banks in its early and aggressive Atlantic expansion — by the 1880s it had branches in Jamaica and Bermuda, and this note series circulated across those Caribbean operations as well as domestic Maritime branches. Chartered bank notes in Canada remained legal tender substitutes well into the twentieth century, a function the Dominion government only fully terminated with the 1944 Bank Act revisions.
ABNC's New York plant produced this series across a span of over fifty years, with plate alterations and signature combinations distinguishing individual issues within the type. Date range and signatories are the primary keys to narrowing any example to a specific emission window.
