| Obverse description | Central field bears the national arms of Liberia, comprising a shield depicting a sailing ship at sea with a rising sun and a palm tree, surmounted by a dove in flight, flanked by decorative scrollwork and a ribbon bearing the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2000 divided to either side of the arms at mid-field. | Additional information |
Liberia's late-1990s and early-2000s commemorative program was essentially a commercial licensing operation, producing high-volume novelty issues for the collector gift market with no meaningful domestic circulation. This piece is part of that output — struck almost certainly by a European contract mint and sold primarily through television shopping channels and mail-order catalogs in the United States and Germany.
The applied color process postdates striking and has no bearing on numismatic grade under most recognized standards.
