Andorra has no Olympic Committee of its own for the purposes of IOC recognition at the time this coin was struck — the principality competed under a National Olympic Committee granted full recognition only in 1975, making its Olympic-themed issues a quiet assertion of participation from one of Europe's smallest and most landlocked states. Tennis returned to the Olympic program at Seoul in 1988 after a 64-year absence, the sport having been dropped after the 1924 Paris Games over disputes between the ITF and the IOC regarding amateurism rules.
