| Aversbeschreibung | The quartered coat of arms of Andorra occupies the central field, depicting the episcopal mitre and crozier of the Bishop of Urgell in the upper left and lower right quarters, and the four vertical bars of the Count of Foix alternating with two bulls passant in the remaining quarters. The shield is surmounted by a bishop's mitre and crozier. Encircling the arms is a ring of twelve five-pointed stars joined by a beaded chain, evoking the European Community motif. The peripheral legend reads JOAN D.M. BISBE D'URGELL I PRINCEP D'ANDORRA, with ECU and the date 1993 inscribed in the lower field. |

| Zusätzliche Informationen |
Andorra issued no domestic coinage of its own for most of the twentieth century, relying entirely on French and Spanish currency in circulation. The commemorative silver program launched in the 1980s and 1990s — of which this piece is part — was the first sustained effort to produce distinctly Andorran numismatic material, authorized under the co-princeship of Joan Martí i Alanis, the Bishop of Urgell. The Customs Union referenced here reflects Andorra's 1990 agreement with the European Community, which formalized its unusual status as a non-member state permitted to trade in EC goods under specific tariff arrangements.
