Additional information

Andorra's currency situation in 2001 was genuinely anomalous — the principality had no official currency of its own, using French francs and Spanish pesetas interchangeably until the euro absorbed both on January 1st of that year. This coin, issued in the transition year, belongs to a long series of Andorran silver commemoratives that served primarily as collector pieces rather than circulating money, filling a political space the principality occupied without ever quite having a central bank to back it.
