Reverse description Central device depicts the Tunisian national coat of arms: a quartered shield bearing a Punic galley in chief, scales of justice in the lower left quarter, and a rampant lion in the lower right quarter, all surmounted by a crescent and five-pointed star. Decorative foliate or arabesque motifs flank the shield on either side. The legend REPUBLIQUE TUNISIENNE curves along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the Arabic motto حرية نظام عدالة (Freedom, Order, Justice) appears in the field. Additional information

Tunisia's republic was formally proclaimed on July 25, 1957, following the deposition of the last Bey of Tunis, Muhammad VIII al-Amin. The 25th anniversary series came during Bourguiba's late presidency, a period of increasing authoritarianism and economic strain that would culminate in his removal by Ben Ali in 1987 — making these issues, produced across 1983–1986, inadvertent relics of a political order already entering its final chapter.
