| 表面の説明 | Left-facing draped bust of Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail by engraver Michael Rizzello. The ruler is depicted wearing traditional Arab dress, including an embroidered thobe with decorative geometric trim at the collar and shoulders, and a keffiyeh secured by an agal. The portrait occupies the central field with a clean, unlettered surround, the flat field serving as an elegant foil to the sculptural effigy. No legend or inscription appears on the obverse. |

Bahrain's independence from Britain in August 1971 came not through conflict but through a UN-brokered agreement that also formally ended Iran's long-standing territorial claim to the archipelago — a claim Tehran had pressed since the 18th century. This coin was among the first commemorative issues authorized by the newly sovereign state, struck to mark that moment under Emir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who had governed under British protection since 1961 and would continue to rule until his death in 1999.
