The "coup d'état" language is the issuer's own — the Banque Centrale de Tunisie officially denominated this coin in commemoration of the November 7, 1987 removal of Habib Bourguiba by Prime Minister Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, who had Bourguiba declared medically unfit for office without firing a shot. Ben Ali governed Tunisia for the next 23 years, until his own removal during the 2010–2011 revolution. A state commissioning a gold commemorative of its founding coup, using that word without euphemism, is unusual enough to note.
