Tunisia's 1973 series marked the Banque Centrale's sustained relationship with De La Rue, which had printed Tunisian notes going back to the early independence period. By this point the relationship was well established, and the 10 Dinars occupied the upper tier of everyday circulation — the dinar had been redenominated from the old franc system in 1960, and by the early 1970s the economy was absorbing the effects of rapid tourism development along the coast and the government's ambitious Ten-Year Plan.
The watermark remains the primary security feature on this issue, modest by later standards but sufficient for the period.
