The Republic of Serbian Krajina — a self-declared state occupying Serb-held territories within Croatia — had no independent monetary infrastructure whatsoever. These notes were produced entirely in Belgrade, a fact the issuing authority had little reason to advertise. ZIN, the Yugoslav federal mint and banknote printer, simply took on the contract while the SFRY itself was disintegrating around it.

With over twelve million printed and a watermark as the sole security feature, the notes were poorly protected against counterfeiting — arguably a moot point for a currency that never achieved international recognition and circulated only within a politically contested and economically isolated enclave.
