| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is executed in dark green and black on a pale yellow-green ground, its entire field dominated by an elaborate central guilloche vignette comprising concentric lathe-work rosettes enclosing the large bold numeral "10", flanked symmetrically on both sides by the inscription "DEUTSCHE MARK" set within dark cartouches. Denomination numerals "10" appear in each corner within smaller guilloche medallions, and foliate sprigs occupy the lower centre. The top border carries "BANKNOTE" in spaced capitals, the lower border a statutory counterfeiting warning in small roman type, and to the right a detached green guilloche coupon medallion bears the numeral "10". |

The Deutsche Notenbank was the central bank established in the Soviet occupation zone, and this 1948 note predates the formal split into two German states — that came in 1949. The currency reform of June 1948 that produced these notes ran parallel to, but entirely separate from, the West German reform that introduced the Deutsche Mark under Allied administration. Two currency reforms in one country within weeks of each other, producing notes with nearly identical nomenclature, has confused collectors ever since.
Print run of just over twelve million is modest by occupation-era standards, and surviving circulated examples from the eastern zone tend to show heavy use — consumer goods were scarce and cash changed hands frequently in what little private commerce existed.
