| Obverse description | Central field depicts St. George on horseback, armoured and wielding a raised sword, trampling the dragon beneath the horse's hooves in a dynamic composition engraved by Christopher Ironside. The denomination numeral '10' appears prominently in the lower field below the main device. The legend 'DECIMAL PENCE' arcs around the upper left and right periphery, with the date '1963' positioned to the right, all enclosed within a beaded border. The dragon is rendered with considerable detail, coiling beneath the rearing horse. This uniface pattern bears no reverse design, serving as a trial piece produced in anticipation of British decimalisation. |

| Reverse description | This is a uniface pattern piece; the reverse is blank and unstruck, bearing no design, legend, or device. Several related pattern strikes exist featuring a portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin on the reverse, but this example represents the uniface variety produced solely to evaluate the obverse design by Christopher Ironside in preparation for British decimal coinage reform. |
