The 10 Corona denomination was introduced as Austria's contribution to the Latin Monetary Union framework, with the corona replacing the gulden at a fixed rate of two corona per gulden following the Currency Reform Act of 1892. Production stretched across a decade as the Vienna mint worked to fully retire older gulden-denominated gold from circulation. Dies for this type are known to vary across the production run, with earlier strikes from the 1890s generally showing crisper relief than later issues pressed from worn tooling.
