Reverse description At the upper portion of the reverse, the series designation and thematic title of the 12th Ibero-American Series are inscribed in the field, identifying the overarching theme of Historic Railways. At center, a full-color applied image of a historic steam locomotive — identified as Locomotive No. 25 — dominates the design, rendered in vivid polychrome detail against the silver field. The denomination appears in the lower portion of the coin, completing the composition. The year of issue, 2020, is also present within the upper legend.

Additional information

Nicaragua's railway history is a short and largely forgotten chapter. The country built its first line in the 1880s connecting Corinto to Managua, primarily to move coffee and other export commodities to the Pacific port. The network never exceeded a few hundred kilometers and had effectively ceased passenger operations by the mid-20th century, with freight service collapsing entirely by the 1990s.

This .925 silver issue is part of Nicaragua's broader collector series, struck for the international numismatic market rather than domestic circulation.
