Nicaragua issued this piece to commemorate the 1991 visit of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía of Spain — the first Spanish royal visit to the country in the post-Sandinista period, arriving just as Violeta Chamorro's newly elected government was attempting to reestablish international ties severed during a decade of revolutionary governance and U.S. trade embargo.
