Additional information

Momotombo is an active stratovolcano on the shores of Lake Managua that erupted in 1905 and remained dormant for over a century before reactivating dramatically in December 2015 — just two years before this coin's issue. Nicaragua has built geothermal energy infrastructure on its flanks, tapping the volcano's heat as a power source since the 1980s.
