| Additional information |
The Isletas de Granada are a cluster of roughly 365 small islands formed by debris from a prehistoric eruption of Volcán Mombacho, scattered across the southwestern edge of Lake Nicaragua. Nicaragua issued this coin as part of a broader series celebrating the country's natural geography at a moment when ecotourism was being actively promoted as an economic alternative following years of Contra war damage and the devastation of Hurricane Mitch in 1998.
