Thomas De La Rue held the printing contract for El Salvador's colón series through much of the mid-twentieth century, and this P#118 note falls squarely within that long relationship. The 1971–1976 date range reflects sequential issue dates rather than a single print run — the same plate design was used across multiple dated releases, which is why notes from the early and late ends of that window can look essentially identical except for the printed date.
El Salvador maintained the colón at a fixed rate of 2.50 to the U.S. dollar from 1934 until 1986, so monetary pressure during the 1970s showed up in fiscal policy rather than exchange rate movement — the note circulated in a currency that was, by design, immovable.
