| 备注 |
The Banco Comercial de Costa Rica was one of several private commercial banks authorized to issue currency under Costa Rica's free banking period, which lasted until the government consolidated note-issuing rights in 1914 — the same year this note was printed. The timing matters: this series was produced just as that era was closing, and the Banco Comercial itself would lose its issuing privilege within a few years as the state moved to centralize monetary control.
ABNC produced the plates in New York, as they did for most Central American private bank issues of the period. The S-prefix Pick reference confirms provisional or semi-official status in the standard catalog.
