The circular legend ROYAL GOVERNMENT OF BHUTAN runs along the upper periphery, with the date 1979 positioned in the lower exergual area, flanked by raised dot stops. The overall design exhibits a bold, traditional Bhutanese artistic style. |

Trial strikes of this denomination were produced as Bhutan modernized its coinage infrastructure in the late 1970s, working through the Royal Mint in collaboration with foreign minting authorities. Trial pieces in brass were used to test die alignment, striking pressure, and planchet feed before committing to full production runs — they were never intended for circulation and exist in very small numbers.
