| Beschrijving keerzijde | The denomination 10 CENTS and the date 1862 are displayed in three lines at the center of the coin, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. An ornamental border of repeating scroll or floral motifs encircles the beaded ring, creating a decorative frame around the central inscription. The overall design is simple and typographically clear, reflecting a trial strike aesthetic. The field within the inner circle is plain. |

The 1862 Hong Kong 10-cent coinage emerged from early British efforts to standardize a reliable subsidiary silver currency for the colony, where Spanish and Mexican milled dollars had long dominated trade. The Royal Mint produced trial strikes that year to test specifications before committing to full production runs — KM#Pn53 is among those exploratory pieces, struck in reduced-fineness silver rather than the .900 standard that would eventually be adopted.
Full circulation issue of the 10-cent denomination followed in 1863.
