New Brunswick's 1862 pattern coinage was struck in anticipation of the province establishing its own decimal currency system, just years before Confederation would render the entire project moot. London's Royal Mint produced these pieces as submission samples, and they never entered circulation. The provincial government's window for independent monetary policy slammed shut in 1867.
Ch#NB-2 is among the rarest of the pre-Confederation Canadian provincial patterns — surviving examples number in the single digits.
