Obverse description Youthful laureate and draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, occupying the central field. The legend VICTORIA D : G : REG : NEW BRUNSWICK · runs around the periphery in raised Latin lettering, separated by a raised rim. The portrait is rendered in fine relief characteristic of mid-nineteenth century British colonial coinage.

Reverse description Central field bears the denomination 10 CENTS and date 1862 in three lines, surrounded by an ornate arabesque or lozenge-and-scroll wreath design forming a decorative border within the raised rim. The arabesque pattern consists of interlocking foliate and geometric motifs, giving the reverse a distinctive and elaborate appearance typical of pattern coinage of the period.
