Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas was the sole training base for the Women Airforce Service Pilots — the WASP program — and this scrip was issued by the Officers' Association to circulate within that closed military installation. Wartime base currency of this kind kept spending on-post and away from local civilian economies, particularly useful in a small West Texas town with limited commercial infrastructure.
WASP-associated material from Avenger Field is historically thin on the ground. Most base scrip was destroyed or discarded at program's end when the WASP were abruptly disbanded in December 1943 — before the war itself was over.
