10 Cents Societe Francaise des Charbonnages du Tonkin

The Société Française des Charbonnages du Tonkin was a coal-mining company operating the Hòn Gai coalfields in northern Vietnam — one of the most productive mining operations in French Indochina. Company-issued scrip of this kind circulated among mine workers as a wage and token payment system, redeemable only at company stores. It was a closed economy by design, keeping labor costs controllable and workers commercially dependent on the employer.

The yellow paper is characteristic of the series and aids identification, as multiple denominations in similar format were issued concurrently.
