Reverse description The denomination 10 in large numerals dominates the central field, with CENTS beneath it and the date 1863 below that, all arranged in three stacked lines at center. Encircling the central device, the legend POSTAGE CURRENCY arcs across the upper field and ACT JULY 1862 curves along the lower field, separated by small ornamental rosette stops at either side. The design is bold and typographic in character, consistent with the emergency postage currency coinage proposals of the Civil War era.
