Uganda's shift to copper-plated steel for this denomination in 1976 was driven by the economic chaos of Idi Amin's regime, which had by that point gutted the country's foreign exchange reserves and made imported coin blanks increasingly difficult to finance. The "Magnetic" designation distinguishes it from the earlier bronze KM#2, a distinction that matters more than it might appear — the two are visually near-identical, and misattribution in collections is routine.
