Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, supported by two bare-chested woodcutters — one holding an axe, the other a mallet and paddle — flanking a quartered shield bearing crossed tools over a sailing ship in base, surmounted by a mahogany tree. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO. The legend BELIZE arcs above the design, while the date 1974 appears below, all framed within an ornamental wreath of laurel branches and a raised beaded border at the rim.
