Military scrip issued by the Non-Commissioned Officers' Open Mess at Killeen Base — the predecessor installation to what became Fort Hood — circulated exclusively within that facility's social and dining operations. These mess tokens in paper form were a common way for on-base clubs to manage internal accounts, control access to subsidized goods, and keep transactions off the general post economy. They had no value outside the issuing mess and were periodically recalled and replaced precisely to prevent accumulation or off-base leakage.
The pink paper is a denominator color — not decorative.
