Obverse description Left-facing portrait bust of Jacobus Johannes Fouché, State President of South Africa from 1968 to 1975, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The legend 'SOUTH AFRICA' and 'SUID-AFRIKA' appears in the field, along with the engraver's initials 'J.B.' and the date '1976' flanked by raised dots.

Reverse description A centrally positioned aloe plant, rendered in fine detail with broad fleshy leaves radiating from the base and tall flowering spikes rising above, occupies the lower portion of the field. The large numeral '10' is prominently displayed in the upper field above the plant. The engraver's initials 'T.S.' appear in the exergue below the aloe.
