| Opmerkingen |
H.M.C.S. Peregrine was a Royal Canadian Navy shore establishment in Halifax, commissioned in 1941 as a manning and training depot. Officers' mess scrip of this type circulated internally as a substitute for coin during the war years, when small denomination currency was persistently scarce at Canadian naval bases. These notes were never legal tender and had no value outside the mess.
Mauve paper was a deliberate choice — colored stock helped prevent counterfeiting and distinguished denominations at a glance across the bar.
