Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King George VI facing left, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget, with the engraver's initials HP visible in the field near the truncation of the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and facial features. The circular legend reads GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP: interrupted by the king's effigy, meaning 'George VI, by the Grace of God, King and Emperor of India.'
